6th Grade Art

Week at a Glance |
As the end of the quarter gets closer people start to notice their grades a lot more. Some are fine others not so much. For the ones that need improvement it's a bit late to fully make up the work but you still have plenty of time to bring them up substantially. Here's how... Note: any score that is 50% means at least 1 of the following
| Basic Troubleshooting and Helpful Videos |
- Fix Formal Grades First: they will fix your grade more efficiently (less time and effort) than extra credit. Below are the "short cut's" to get them fixed:
- Who I Am Project (15 minutes)
- If you have the project: take pictures of it and turn it in! Doesn't matter if it is finished or not JUST TURN IT IN! Let's be real you've had 6 weeks to "finish it" and you haven't, just turn it in!
- If you don't have the project: Spend 10 minutes drawing a self portrait and upload an image of the drawing. That's it!
- What is Art (5 minutes)
- Skip the instructions and just answer the prompt: "What do you think art is?" spend at least 5 minutes on it!
- Zentangle Project (30 minutes)
- If you have the project: Take pictures of it and turn it in.
- If you don't have the project:
- Option 1: turn in last progress image you have of it
- Option 2: Watch and copy the 30 minute video (button above) but use/fill a sheet of drawing paper (make patterns bigger too ;-)
- Zentangle Project Discussion (10 minutes)
- Go complete both Day 1 and 2 Instructions, the instructions are at the top of the assignment.
- Note: Extra credit option with this turn in ;-)
- Who I Am Project (15 minutes)
- Fix Informal Grades: they won't be unlocked, but you can get some extra credit to help them out but more importantly
- Complete this week's Check-in and Progress Images Assignments are complete on time! Everyone who gets both done this week will get some extra credit!
- Extra, Extra Credit: Watch, take notes about, and turn in Inside The Labyrinth Documentary (The Making Of Labyrinth) 1986
- There will be an assignment on Canvas to turn it in ;-)

1. Art Supplies- Everyone should have their kits now(ps-I know some people don't)
- If you are missing parts or kits, need to trade of kits, or haven't received yours yet, they will be ready to pick up at the school after Wednesday 9/23. I need time to coordinate with staff who will be on campus and get instructions for where/how to go about scheduling a pick up. Email me for more information
- Everyone should have their art supplies at this point; however, I know some people haven't gotten their kits yet. I know part of the reason might be because of a miscommunication through the Visual Arts Boosters site. The checkout-cart on the site apparently made it sound like supplies were going to be shipped, when in fact everyone needed to either pick them up from the school. We're working on fixing it so it's not an issue in the future.
- I'm still working out the details of how I'm supposed do get them out to everyone; however, all grades for all classes have been updated in Canvas and Powerschool. I spent about 14 hours over the weekend getting everything scored, imported from Canvas to Powerschool, and even cleaned up names of assignments and modules so hopefully they make a little more sense. I'm also working on simplifying instructions and adding a "Help" module with videos that help with common issues people have been having with dealing with the buggieness of Canvas assignments.
- If you have questions about grades here's what you need to do, and do them in this order- you'll probably find the answers for most of your questions
- Look at the "Grades" part of Canvas
- Look for Rubrics and Comments AND READ THEM - I know, novel idea right?! They will usually tell you what you need to to to address issues with the assignments.
- Yes, I'm still accepting all FORMAL assignments for full credit- just turn them in or submit for re-grading. No explanation or excuses needed, I get it- it's been crazy for everyone. Just please fix stuff sooner rather than later.
- Informal Assignments- just focus on keeping up with them from now on. If you do that, by the end of the quarter low scores now won't be a big deal. Go for good for now- this year is not about perfect and that's ok. Fixing your Formal scores will help your grade the most anyway!
